1737.-Hocquart sent products of Canada to be exhibited in France. Fort Rouge in

1739.-Mgr de l'Auberivière, appoipted to succeed Mgr Dosquet, but died on !lrrival
at Quebec on ilie 20th August 1740.
1741.-Mgr de Pontbriand, 6th bishop of Quebec.
1743.-La Verendrye's eldest son,discovered the Rocky Mountains and the source of the
Missouri.
1744.-Publication of the history of New France, by Father Charlevoix.
1745.-Louisburg taken by the English.
1746.-Loss of d'Anville's fieet, intended to re-capture Louisburg.
1747.-The English defeated at Grand'Prê. The following forts erected by la Verendrye's
son: Bourdon, Dauphin, Postroyac and La Corne. M. de la Jonquière, appointed
governor, made a prisoner by the English near Ca.pe Finisterre, in Spain, and
beld captive for two years in England.

1748.-Treaty of Aix la Cbapelle. Louisburg and Cape Breton restored to France. Forts
Gaspareaux and Beauséjour built in Acadia; La Presentation (Ogdensburg),
Rouillé (Toronto), on the Great Lakes. Bigot appointed intendant.
1749.-Halifax founded, Lord Halifax, founder of the town that bears his name, brought
there 600 English fo.milies.

1752.-Deaili of La Jonquière, at Quebec.

17th Governor: M. Duq11.esne de Menneville (1752 to 1755).
1753.-Construction of forts Presqu'Ile. River aux Bœufs (Mach.ault,) below Niagara.
1754.-Jumonville assassinated by \Vashington's soldiers near Fort Necessity. Sieur de
Villiers avenged the dea.th of his brother Jumonville by a striking victory in
taking Fort Necessity.
M. de Contrecœur buiH fort Duque~ne at the confluence of the Monongahela and
Alleghany rivprs.
1755.-The English'Admiral Boscawen captured two vessels of Dieskau'e fleet in the Gulf
of St. Lawrence. Braddock defeated by Duma.s at Monong.a.hcla. Forts
Gasparaux and Beausejour taken by the English. Monckton, an English general,
assembled the Acadians in a church, Rt Grand-Pré, made them prisoners of war,
and condeTIlJ1ed them to deportntion. They were put into vessels and scattered
from Boston to Carolina. Baron Dieslwu, French gencral was wounded and
made prisoner \\'Îth his troops at Fort Edward by the English General Johnson.
