2     ACT ESTABLISIIING THE BUREAU OF STATISTICS

                             for the bureau, the statistics and information which he may think usefui
                             to the public.
                                 "33. Vnder the direction of the Minister, the head of the bureau
                             shall colleet, condense and tabulate useful statistics and information
                             respecting this Province and more particularly respecting education,
                             industry, commerce, D.griculture, population, colonization, the natural
                            products of the soil and generally respecting everything which concerna
                            the Province and is of public interest.
                                 "34. Whenever it appears to the Minister that the statistics and
                            information collected and condensed are sufficiently important and
                            reliable to make the publication thereof useful, he shall have them
                            published in the manner and form prescribed by the Lieutenant-Gover~
                            nor in Council.
                                 Neither the Lieutenant-Governor in Council nor the Minister, in
                            the exercise of the powers conferred by this section, shall discriminate
                             between persons or companies to the prejudice of any of them.

                                 "35. Every officer or employee under the control of the Govern-
                            ment of the Province, or under the control of a municipality, or of a
                            schooi board or of a society, association or corporation constituted in
                            virtue of a law in force in this Province, or receiving a subsidy from the
                             Government of this Province, and every person so subsidized, shaH
                            answer promptly aU official communications from the bureau and collect
                            and correctly classify the facts or statistics called for by the bureau.
                                 "36..Any persan mentioned in section 35 who wilfully givea false
                            information or refuses or neglects to answer a question authorized by
                            this division, or to collect, classify or deliver the statistics which it is in
                            his power to colled, classify or deliver, when he has been duly called
                            upon so to do by the Minister or by the head of the bureau, shall be
                            liable for each offence, to a fine of not more than fifty dollars.
                                 " Without prejudice to the above provision, in any case where the
                             information given is faise or where there is refusaI or neglect to give
                             any inlormation} the minister rnay authorize the head of the bureau or
                             any other employee under his control to collect and classify such infor-
                            mation, and to recover from any persan mentioned in section 35 the
                             expense incurred in procuring such information, saving, however, the
                            recourbe of any such person, before a competent tribunal, against his
                             employee at fault."

                                  "37. The Minister, with the consent of the Lieutenant-Governor
                            in CounciI, may make aIl arrangements which he may think usefui
                            to establish a system of exchange of information or statistics between
                            the Government of Canada or one or more of its departments and the
                             "Bureau".
