                                   The Board  (established  in  1964)  has  three  certification
                                   categories in research  and  two  in  teaching:
                                     Certified  Genealogist  (CG)
                                     Certified  Genealogical Records  Specialist  (CGRS)
                                     Certified  Lineage  Specialist  (CLS)'
                                     Certified  Genealogical  Lecturer  (CGL)
                                     Certified  Genealogical Instructor  (CGI)
                                     The BCG Web  site has  expanded  to become  as  helpful
                                   as  possible  to  potential  applicants.  There  you  will  find
                                   FAQs, a host  of  skill-building  articles,  a  "test  your  skills"
                                  page,  and  examples  of portfolio  requirements.  Familiarity
                                  with  The BCG  Genealogical Standarcls Manztal  is  extremely
                                   helpful. Applicants are  accepted  from any area  of the world
                                  in which  BCG deems it  has  at least  three  knowledgeable
                                   judges.  After  submitting a preliminary  application  form  and
                                   fee, the candidate will receive the Application Guide and testing
                                  materials.  Some general expectations  apply  to all  categories,
                                  and then  specific requirements  apply to the chosen category.
                                  All  the  work  can  be  done at home,  by  correspondence, at
                                  your  own  pace  within  a  year.  The  Board's  goal  is  to
                                  determine  that  you  understand  methodology  and
