The Bureau was created in 1990 by the fidkration
qutbicoise, an alliance of francophone genealogical societies,
with representation from the Archives nationales du
Quibec. They have established three categories:
maitre gintalogiste agrti (MGA)
gintalogiste recherchiste agrii (GRA)
ginialogiste de filiation agrti (GFA)
Three judges will evaluate an applicant on both written
and oral examinations. The participation of the Archives
nationales in this program is notable in that successful
candidates are recognized and approved as leaders in their
field by official keepers of records.
Lineage Societies
Lineage societies have a special place in the genealogical field.
The criterion for membership is to document your direct-
line ascent to an ancestor who fulfills an "exclusive" type of
requirement. The two societies here require serious research
and support for the objectives of the organization. Some
Canadians may uncover ties to various other groups such
Daughters/Sons of the American Revolution (DAR and
SAR) or earlier colonial ancestry in North America. Even
more lineage groups have sprouted for descent from royalty
or more frivolous goals. Web sites and information can be
found by searching the Internet.
