NIGS operates in conjunction with the Professional
Learning Centre of the University of Toronto and is a fully
online program with a multitude of course offerings. Most
courses are also available for home study by
correspondence. Certificate programs are offered on three
levels - Basic, Intermediate and Advanced - or students
can choose selected options in any of the general courses
or country departments. In addition to the complete
Canadian program, there are departments for English,
American, Irish and German genealogy, with more being
added.

The National Genealogcal Society has always been a leader
in education, and is an accredited Distance Education school.
It currently offers topics in a variety of media: home study,
online and audo-teleconferencing. Start dates and details of
the courses should be consulted at their Web site. Americdn
Genealogy: A Basic Course is their excellent 16-lesson home
study certificate course. While the course concentrates on
records of the United States, latitude is given for hTorth
American records for Canadian participants.
