kt African Courts as defined by the Slave Trade (East
Afrioan Courts) Acts, 1873 and 1879.
(2) Except when inronsistent with such Order in Council
the rules of court for the time being in force in a Colonial
Court of Adniirdty or Vice-Admiralty Court shall, so far
as applicable, extend to proceedings in such court in mat-
ters relating to the slave trade.
(3) The provisisons of this Act with respect to appeals
toHer Majesty in Council, from courts in Bntish posses-
sions in the exercise of the juiisdiction conferred by thia
Act, ahal1 apply with the necessq modifications, to ap
peda froui judgments of any East African court made or
purporting to be made in exercise of the jurisdiction under
the Slave Trade (East Afriean Courts) Aets, 1873 snd 1879.
14. It shall be lawful for Rer Majesty in Council from
time to time to make Orders for the purposcs authorkd
by this Act, and to revoke and vary such Order while in
operation shall have eeffect as if it were part of this Act.
15. In the constmction of this Act, unless the context
otherwise requires,
The expression "representative legidature" means, in
relation to a British possession, a legislsture comprising a
legislative body of wbich at least one hnlf are elected by
inhabitants of the British possession.
' The expression "unlimited rivil jurindiction" means civil
jurisdiction unlimited as to the vdue of the subject-matter
at hue, or as to the amount that may be claimed or reco-
vered. ; .
The expressions "judgment" includee a decree, order,
and sentence.
The expression "appeal" means any appeal, reheaiing,
or review; and the expression "locf11 appeal" means an
appeai to any court inferior toHer Majesty in Council.
The expression "Colonial law" meam any Act, ordinan-
ce, or other law having the force of legislative enactment
in a British possassion and made by any authority, other
