                                   REFORMATORY SCHOOLS OF THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC. (1)

                                The reformatory schools are prisons for young delinquents under
                            16 yeal'S of age, condemned by a magistrate to detention,     After the
                           first six months of detention, the director of the reformatory school
                           may, if the child's conduct is satisfactory, allow him to live with a
                           reliable person or hire him outside the establishment by a contract of
                           apprenticeship or for domestic service. The permit must be renewed
                            every three months until the period of detention is over.      The care
                           and maintenance of a child are paid one half by the Government and
                            the other hnlf by the municipality in which thë cilild \-vas when arrested.
                           The munieipality may aftel'wards have itseli l'epaid by exeeution upon
                           the child's immovable property or that of sueh persons as are by law
                           obliged to support bim,
