STATISTICS OF PENAL ESTABLISHMENTS OF T'HE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC.
FOR THE YEAR 1925.
Tables 91 to 97 contain statistics of each judicial district of the
Province. The information applies to the year 1925, and deals mostly
with the administration of the penal institutions, their staff and the
number of persons detained therein, grouped according to sex, nation-
ality and religion. Certain data are also given as to the causes of convic-
tions. This information is collected every year by the Bureau of Statistics
of the Province of Quebec by means of a uniform questionnaire, Parties
having a particuLar interest in the matter will find more information
in the annual report itself.
At the beginnïng of the year ]925, there were 647 men and 87
women in the prisons of the Province. During the year, 11,018 men and
1,778 women were incarcerated. Prisoners liberated or who died during
the same period reached a total of 12,660, viz: 10,960 men and 1,700
women. The care and maintenance of prisoners required a staff of 279
employees who were paid a total amount of $197,624.
