The construction was completed on August 26.
On October 11 the chapel and the Stations of the Cross were blessed.
After the third Church was built, the Chapel served as
a Parish Hall for several years. In 1949 the Municipal Council rented
the hall for $25.00 a year to hold their meetings.
On October 18 blueprints for a new Church (the third) were drawn
up by the architect Pierre LEVESQUE ofQuebec City. The seating
capacity ofthe proposed church was 430 seats, plus an additional 50
seats in the Sacristy. .
1944 On April 16 His Grace Fran.yois-Xavier ROSS, ftrst Bishop
ofthe Diocese ofGaspe, approved the construction of the new
Church (less the Sacristy) at the estimated cost of $50,000.00. He
also approved the loan of $32,000.00. On August 8 the Contractor,
Mr. Ernest C6TE ofQuebec City started construction ofthe Church.
'The contract was for a flxed price.
On November 2 the second Cemetery of Saint Jules was enlarged.
1945 Construction continued on the Church in accordance with the
plans of architect Pierre LEVESQUE. The Church was built in cut
stone. The stone was collected from the banks ofthe Cascapedia
River, along highway 299, and hauled by truck to the construction
site by Luke GERAGHTY, Arthur LAWLIS and Charles BUJOLD.
The Church is 112 feet (34.1 meters) long by 50 feet (15.2 meters)
wide. In the spring of 1945 it was scheduled to be completed by
autumn.
1946 The benediction ofthe Church and the Stations ofthe Cross
was perfonned by His Grace Albini LeBlanc, second Bishop of the
Diocese ofGaspe, on June 30. Here is his signature:
