On April 29 the fIrst funeral service recorded in the Parish Register
of Saint Jules, perfonned by Father Joseph-Desire MORIN, was that
of Joseph Maxwell CORMIER, son of Joseph CORMIER and
Emilia BROWN.
On May 24 His Grace Andre-Albert BLAIS, second Bishop of the
Diocese of Rimouski, blessed the beH ofthe Saint Jules Parish
Chapel. The bell weighing 317 pounds (144 kilograms) was cast in
the plant of Henry McSHAW ofBaltimore, Maryland, USA.
On June 9 construction began on the Presbytery of the Parish of
Saint Jules.
On June 10 the fIrst marriage recorded in the Parish Register of
Saint Jules, perfonned by Father Jacob GAGNE, was between James
Augustin WILLETI and Mary Elizabeth Ann BEST.
On August 16 Father Joseph-Desire MORIN (Curate ofFather Jacob
GAGNE, Parish Priest of Maria, who was in charge of Maria, the
HSt-Louis, Roi de France" Mission, and the Saint Jules Mission) was
named the fIrst Priest of Saint Jules Parish. Father MORIN received
a salary of $100.00 a year.
On September 23 the Micmac Mission of "St-Louis, Roi-de-France"
was detached from Maria Parish and attached to Saint Jules Parish.
It would remain attached to Saint Jules until September 20, 1940.
1902 On February 2 the fabrique borrowed the sum of$400.00 to
cover the cost ofcompleting the construction ofthe Presbytery of
Saint Jules.
1908 On October 7 a bell was blessed at the "St-Louis, Roi de
France" Mission. This bell weighing 375 pounds (170 kilograms)
was manufactured by "Blymer Bells" in the United States. It
received the following names: Louis, Andre-Albert, PacifIque and
Joseph-Desire.
