12 feet (3.7 meters) in length by 15 feet (4.6 meters) in width. The
roof was covered with 2 nd class cedar shingles painted with
metallic paint. The site, measuring 10 acres (4 hectares), situated on
lot number 10, was a gift of Mr. James LYND owner of the lot.
On July 14 after an inspection "...the Hygiene Council of the
Province of Quebec accepts the site as proposed and designated in
the report as being suitable for the purpose of establishing a
cemetery...". The land for the first Cemetery, on lot number 9 in
front of the Chapel, was purchased from Mr. Alexander COULL for
the sum of $36.00.
On November 8 the Stations of the Cross (in brass) were erected in
the Chapel.
1901 On January 2, the Parish of Maria gave an additional sum of
$200.00 to the Parish of Saint Jules.
The Canonical establishment of the Parish of Saint Jules occured on
January 20, date ofthe opening of the parish registers, under the
auspices of the Parish Priest of Maria, Father Jacob GAGNE. The
patron saint chosen for the parish was Saint Jules, elected Pope on
February 6,337, he died a Martyr on April 12,352.
On February 2 the flfSt sacrament recorded in the Parish Register of
Saint Jules, perfonned by Father Jacob GAGNE, was the Baptism of
Marie Ethel CLEARY, daughter ofThomas Albert CLEARY and
Helene LEBLANC.
On February 3 the first election of wardens was held. The following
were elected: Patrick FORAN, Thomas FORAN, Charles POIRIER
Joseph LEGOUFFE, Joseph CORMIER Philias BOUDREAU,
Thomas CARROLL and Emesie AUDET. The first three were

named respectively IS\ 2 and 3 new Wardens, and the five others
were named past Wardens.
