The Parish of Saint Jules was created from parts of the original
Parishes ofMaria and New Richmond. The territory of the Parish is
about 13 miles (21 kilometers) wide by 8 miles (13 kilometers) deep.
It includes all ofthe Municipalities ofSaint Jules and Grand
Cascapedia, and part of New Richmond. It covers a part of the
following three Townships: Angers, Maria and New Richmond.
The Parish Church of Saint Jules is on the west side of the
Cascapedia River about 4 miles (6 kilometers) upriver from the Baie
des Chaleurs, about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) west ofSaints-Anges-
Gardiens Church in New Richmond, and 7.5 miles (12 kilometers)
east ofSainte-Brigitte Church in Maria. It is located at 3 Northwest
Street (at the intersection ofGallagher, Northwest, Bridge and
McKay roads) in the Municipality of Saint Jules, Bonaventure
County, Province ofQuebec, Canada. GOC 2BO.
1897 Saint Jules became a Mission on January 27 by decree of His
Grace Andre-Albert BLAIS, second Bishop ofthe Diocese of
Rimouski. It was served by the Parish Priest ofMaria, Father Jacob
GAGNE, from this date till August 16, 1901. Between 1897 and
1899, the Priest said Mass once a month in the Cascapedia River
School located directly north of the future Chapel.
1899 On April 16, His Grace Andre-Albert BLAIS named five
special Wardens, with Father Jacob GAGNE presiding, for the Saint
Jules Mission, they were: Joseph LEGOUFFE, Joseph CORMIER
Charles POIRIER PhiJias BOUDREAU, and Patrick FORAN.
On July 2 the Parish ofMaria gave the swn of $300.00 to help in the
construction ofa Chapel. The ChapeJ was built by Peter Nadeau &
SOliS, for the sum of$500.00, between July 6 and September 1. It
measured 45 feet (13.7 meters) in length by 30 feet (9.1 meters) in
width by 16 feet (4.9 meters) in height, with a pentagonal Choir of
