The District Magistrates have jurisdiction thro'ughout the Provin-
ce. In penalllnd criminal matters they are invested with the same ju-
risdiction as that conferred upon judges of the Sessions of the Peace
and Police Magistrates by the Federal Parliament or the Provincial
Legislature as the case may be (1).
The following table indicates the number of cases tried in the
District Magistrates' Court, throughout the Province, in 1926. As a
resuit of 206 preliminary inquiries made, 167 cases were sent to the
assizes and there were 39 acquittais. As a result of 385 summal'Y trials
there were 302 convictions, 72 acquittals and 11 adjournments. Out of
158 speedy trials, there were 99 convictions, 52 acquittals and the other
7 cases were not finally judged. Under the act for the conviction of
juvenile deJinquents, there were 17 convictions, 2 acquittais, 2 adjourn-
ments out of 21 complaints. The figures in 1925 wel'e as folJows: pl'elim-
inary inquiries 236; summary trials, 333 of which 265 convictions and

45 acquittaIs; speedy trials, 159 with 11 9 convictions and 32 acquittals;
young delinquents, 26 charges, with 23 convictions and 3 adjournments.
