Practising and Applying the Standards 4 9
novice; many editors of major periodicals send new submissions
to chosen readers who are familiar with the sources or the
geographc area or historic time period, for peer review that gets
passed back to you. Ultimately, it is up to you to implement any
recommended changes or suggestions. The option of submitting
your material electronically is becoming more common, which
also makes an editor's task easier.
The point of this chapter is to encourage you to try it
out at some level. \Ve recommend the publications in the
Reading and Reference section to build further confidence.
If your proposed article is about two or more generations
of a family, you should definitely plan to use a recognized
or standard format. Examples can be found in some of the
following most scholarly and widely circulated periodicals
on the continent. The addresses given are for the societies
only because editorial addresses can change from time to
                                   time.
