          1693.-GeneraJ Hospital founded in Quebec by Mgr de SL. Vailiel·.
          1694.-Foundation of Montreal General Hospital by Mr. Charon de la BMre.  In 1747 Lhis
                   institution wus confided to Madame d'Youvillc, foundress of Sisters of Charity.
          1695.-Fort Cl1taracoui rebuilt by Frontenac.
          1696.-D'Iberville captures St. John, Newfoundland, and fort Pemaquid.
          1697.-Treaty of Ryswick: Hudson Bay restored to France, and Newfoundland to England.
          1698.-Ursuline convent at Three Rivers, founded by Mgr. de St. Vallier.  Death of Front,enac.
                   Population of the colony: 13,355.

                              13th Governor: M. de Callière (169810 1703)

          1701.-Great treaty of peace signed at Montreal between the Indiam and tbe French.  Detroit
                   founded by Lamothe Cu.dilluc and Mobile by Lemoine de Bienville.  Canadians
                   granted the right to manufacture.  Beginning of the war of the Spanish Succession,
                   which was to have repercUBsions in Canada.

          1704.-The settlements of Deerfield and Haverhill destroyed by Hertel de Rouville.  Mgr. de
                   St. Vallier, returning from France on the "Seine", made prisoner by the English and
                   obliged to spend 8 years in London.  Church attacks Port RoyoJ in Acaclia, but is
                   repulsed by Governor Subercase.
          1705.-Canadians capture the English posts on Newfoundlaud.
           1706.-Death of d'Iberville, at Havv.nl1.
           1707.-March attacks Port Royal, but ia driven off alter a siege of 9 dClYS.
           1708.-Death of Mgr. de Laval.
           1709.-M. de St. Ovide captures the forts defending St. Johns, Newfoundland.
           17l0.-Port Royal (now Annapolis), captured by the English.  M. de Subercuse obtains an
                   honorable capitulation.
           1711.-Walker's /:Ieet, bouud for Quebec, destroyed bya storm in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and
                   Nicholson's army, which was w have effected Cl junction with Walker, retreats.
           1712.-Attack of Outagamis on Detroit repulsed.

           1729.-Massacre of the French in Louisiana by the Natchez.  Fort Frederiek erected at the head
                   of Lake Champlain.
           1731.-Discovery of Lake of the Woods and Lake Manitoba by Ln Verendrye.  Forts St. Charles
                   and St. Pierre erected.
           1733.~Ul Verendrye discovers Lake Winnipeg.  Fort Maurepas erected.  First forge estahlished
                   at St. Maurice.  Mgr. Dosquet, 4th bishop of Quebec.
