        1733.-La Verendrye discovers Lakc Winnipeg. Fort Muurepas erected. Fir~t forge establiahed
                 at St. Maurice. Mgr Dosquet, 4th bishop of Quchec.
        1737.-Hocquart sends prodllcts of Canada to be exhibited in France. Fort Rouge in Manitoba
                 erected.
        1738.-Fort La Reine in Manitoba erected.  Foundation of Order of Sisters of Charity in
                 Montreal by Madam d'Youville.
        1739.-Mgr de l'Auberivière appointed (,0 succeed Mgr Dosquet, but his death occurs on arrivaI
                 at Quebec on the 20th August, 1740.
        1741.-Mgr de Pontbriand, 6th bishop of Quebec.
        1743.-La Verendrye's eldest ,on discovers the Rocky Mountains and the source of the Missouri.

        1745.-Louiaburg taken by thc English.
        1746.-Los8 of d'Anville's Reet, int.cn<!ed to re-capture Louisburg.
        1747.-The English defcated at Grand'Pré. The fol1owing forts erected by La Verendrye's son;
                Bourbon, Dauphin, Postroyac and La Corne. M. de la Jonquière, appointed governor
                ie made a prisoner by the English near Cape Finisterre, in Spain, and held captive
                for two years in England.

        1749.-Halifax founded, Lord Halifax, founder of the town that bears his name, brings there
                600 English families.

       1754.-M. de Contrecœur erects Fort Duquesne at the junction of the Monongahela and Alleghany
                rivers.-Jumonville assnssinated by Washington's soldiers near Fort Necessity.
                Sieur de Villiers avenges the death of his brother Jurnonville by a striking victory
                in taking Fort Nece.8sity.
       1755.-The English admiraI, Boscawen captures two vessels of Dieskau's Reet in the Gulf of St.
               Lawrence. Braddock defeatcd by Dumas at Monongahela. Forts GaspareauJC and
               Beausejour taken by the English. Acadians diepersed by order of general Monckton.
               Baron Dieskau, French generlll wounded Ilnd made prisoner with his troopa at Fort
               Edward by the English general, Johnson.

       1756.-Arrival of Montcalm, Levis, Bourln.ffiaque and Bougainville.
       1757.-Capture of Fort George or WiJliam Henry by Montcalm.
       1758.-Louisburg taken by the English. Victory of Cllrillon. Montcalm'a gal!antry gains hlln
               immortal fame. The English take Fort Frontenac (KingRton). French forced to aban-
               don Fort Duquesne.
