Multiple Death Registrations
Occasionally a death is registered more than once, and we
try to imagine the circumstances. Each registration here is
for the same man - all original sources. The differences in
his age, the day he died and the cause of death are because
three different people reported this event, of which the
registrar was apparently unaware. Two of the informants
appear to be kin, but who are they and were they present
at the death or funeral? Do we give the most credibility to
the earliest registration, which happens to include the man's
place of birth in Ireland? Do we discount the clergyman's
report just because he was likely updating his burial register
three months later? Obviously we would like to have
additional evidence.
