In 1967 received the Centenary Medal from the Secretary of State. Died 21 April 1987.
T'oi~chette, Melanie: twin of Claire. Had the same education as her sister. Before becoming a nun Melanie
taught school in Clarence Creek and Hammond. Entered the Grey Nuns Novitiate in 1919 and became
Sister Claire ofMary. Graduated from Ottawa U. with a B.A. and taught Grammar and High School for
45 years in Ottawa and surrounding area. In 1969 became the administrator of the Youville Home in
Sudbury. Died 2 June 1972.
Valade, Melanie: born in 1896 the daughter of Louis Valade and Clara St-Denis Was determined to
become a nun but couldn't stay in either the Grey Nuns order or the Sisters of the Precious Blood, but
cloistered life suited her in the Servants of Jesus and Mary Sister Mary of the Saviour was a nurse and
an t:xc~llent seamstress Died in Hull in February 1973
Valade, Appolonie: sister of Melanie, she went into the Grey Nuns in August 1926. Became a teacher and
Mother Superior in the convents of Buckingham, Aylmer and Fort Coulonge. Obtained a B.A. in Library
Scit:nce, she is now retired and looks after the library in St-Joseph House in Hull.
