BEGIN'
(1631-1979)

REV.LEO E was born Feb.27,1902 at Lac Megantic,p.O. and died
June 14,1980 at the Dominican Monastery in Lewiston,Me after a

long illness. He was the son of Napoleon and M'lanie Labrecque
May 11,1891 at Lambton,p.Q.
He had one surviving brother Alfred of Sherbrooke,P.O. and 3
sisters: Mrs. John(Emelina)MCGuigan and Mrs William(Jeanne) Mur-

ray both of Lewiston,Me and Sister M.Generosa(born Zelina) of
Sabattus,Me.
Reverend Father Begin received his primary education with the
brothers of the Sacred Heart at Lac Megantic and at Wallace School
in Lewiston,Me. He attended St.Ferdinand Coll~e in Quebec and

the College of Montrelal and the Seminary of Philosophy. On July
26,1936 he entered the Dominican Order at St.Hyacinth,P.Q. where
he received the habit Auge3, of tha.t year and was ordained July
14,1931 at St.Dominic Church in Quebec City. His assignments were

first at St.Hyacinth on May 24,1934 - then to Lewiston,Me Nov.
28,1938. He served at the St.Louis Home in West Scarborough,Me
and at the Healy Asylum and at St.Peter and Paul's Church in
Lewiston. In 1961 he served at St.Ann's Church in Fall River,Maas.
From 1962 to 1976 he was in Arizona and returned to Lewiston in

1976. One of his nephew is Monsignor Raymond Begin pastor of Holy
Family's Church in LewistoD.,Me
