                       STATISTICS  OF  THE  TRADE  OF  QUEBEC.
      Compiled  by  Mr. "William  lane,  from  the  exchange  books,  except  the  statement  of  the  export  of
         Timber, which has been furnished  by  Mr. H. W. Welch, broker.
      Comparative  statement  of  the  number  of vessels,  and  their  tonnage, which  arrived at this port  from
         sea, and theliumber  of passengers that came out in them, from 1846 to 1850, inclusive:—

        The above includes the vessels that were bound to Montreal, as  every vessel  that  enters  the port  is
      boarded and reported, whether  she is for Montreal or Quebec.
        Of  the vessels  that'  arrived  here  this  year,  1850,  96  were  foreign,  namely:—45  Norwegian;  24
      American,(U.S.);  19 Prussian;  8 Russian;  2Portuguese;  1 Hanoverian;  1 Swedish;  and  1 Dutch.

                                  TIMBER  TRADE.
      1054 vessels cleared at this  port  during the season  just  closed, and were almost  exclusively  employed
         in the export  of  timber;  they  were  nearly all  of  large tonnage, as will be seen by the  following
         statement,  shewing the ports they cleared  for, the number  of vessels to each port, and the  amount
         of tonnage.
