BdB - An expression used to
describe a field divided horizontalIy
into ten or any higher even number
of qua1 parts. In modern Heraldry
the tenn barry (q.v.) has more gener-
ally been used.
Barralet - A diminutive of the bar
of which it is approximately t its
width. that is to Say approximately
,b of the height of the shield.
Barry - An expression denoting that
the field is horizontally divided into
an even number of equal parts of

which the number must be stated.
In the case of barry it is customary
for the metal to precede the tincture Bars

Barry bendy - An expression denot-
ing that the field is divided fess wise
and bend wise in equal proportions
thus producing a number of dia-
mond sections lying on their sides.
The tinctures thus become counter
changed. Barry bendy sinister may
also be found.
Bat wise - An expression denofing
that charges on the shield are
arranged horizontally one beside

Base - The lower portion of the
shield. Xt may refer to a portion of
the base equal in width of a bar
parted off by a horizontal line.

wyvern but with a dragon's head ar
the end of the tail.
