The Publishing Division of the Ontario Genealogical Society
wished to produce a book about acknowledged standards
of genealogical excellence with a Canadian perspective
towards readership and sources. Just after this was
published in 1997, new definitions of principles and
standards began to circulate, winning great favour in the
genealogy community. This, then, is a revised edition to
reflect those changes.
My thanks go to the members of the former hfanuscript
Advisory Committee who assisted in pulling together the
first edition. It has been an exceptional experience to serve
on the Board for Certification of Genealogists for six years,
which clearly affected this new edition. hly fellow trustees
are all outstanding educators, and I can only hope this book
does some justice to their influence.
Finally, I am deeply grateful to Alison Hare, CGRS, who
willingly provided her admirable skills to keep me on track.
