I wol~ld like to acknowledge the help and assistance of many
people in the completion of this volume. First, Mrs. Addie Shields,
Clinton County Historian, who was always there to provide whatever
help that I needed.
Mrs. Marie Gennett, Chazy town historian, Mr. Frank Goodrich,
Clerk, town of Mooers, Mr. Ralph Gilpin, Clerk, Town of Champlain,
and Mrs. Thelma LaBombard, Clerk, town of Ellenburg, were all
extremely helpful. Mrs. Barbara Seguin, President, and Mrs. Gloria
Pratt, Vice-President, of the American-Canadian Genealogical
Society also provided help whenever requested.
I consulted the McClellan Records of Clinton County on several
occasions to determine inscriptions on stones that had deteriorated
over the years. These records were m ade and recorded by Hugh
McClellan, son Charles Woodbury McClellan, and daughter-in-law,
Hulda (Bredenberg) McClellan. I also used these records to locate
several of the older cemeteries. In the town of Chazy, I used some
information that had been supplied by Mrs. Nell Jane (Barnett)
Sullivan.
