P. 3
This is the third and final volume of headstone inscriptions in
Clinton County, New York. It was revised in 2004 to update and
include additional information that was not available when it was first
published. As part of the revision, the names and dates were
compared to the last 36 years of obituaries to insure accuracy. This
volume contains inscriptions of 79 cemeteries and has about 32,000
records. It contains all of the cemeteries in the towns of Altona,
Beekmantown, Clinton, Champlain, Chazy, Ellenburg, Mooers, and
one cemetery from the town of Plattsburgh and one from the city of
Plattsburgh.
When the headstone reflects the date of death and age, the
age was converted to a year of birth. Even though the spouse's
maiden name may not be on the headstone, it is included whenever it
could be ascertained from other sources. The person is listed under
both their name and their spouse's name. The reader is reminded
that the spellings are exactly as shown on the headstone and may
not be what you are looking for. Please look under all of the possible
spellings of the name. There is also a list of name variations that I
have observed on page 533.
A map of each cemetery is included in this volume, and in many
cases, is divided into sections. Once you locate the record and want
to visit the cemetery to see the headstone, write down the cemetery
code and section shown in the last two columns of each record.
Locate the map of the cemetery by using the list of cemeteries and
record the location. You are now ready to visit the cemetery. There
is an index of all the cemeteries in Clinton County on page 530 that
shows which volume the headstone records are listed in.
