PROVINCE OF QUEBEC

                       DEPARTMENT OF MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS,
                                TRADE AND COMMERCE

                                                       Quebec, April 29th, 1937.

          The Honourable JOSEPH BILODEAU,
              Minister of :Vlunicipal Alfairs,
                  Trade and Commerce,
                          Quebec.

          Sir:-

l have the honour ta submit the twenty-third Statistical Year Book.

Statistics of general interest, drawn from the reports of the various Federal
and Provincial departments j are condensed and classified in this volume in accord-
ance with a definite plan. The Year Book is therefore a synthesis of official data
relating to administration, population and the industrial, economic and social
         activity of the Province.
It is divided into twelve chapters and ail the information is shawn uni-
formly: on each subject, besides the most recent data, a recapitulation is given
thus providing a gauge with which to measure the advances or retroactions
registered over a period of years. Ta illustrate these variations several graphical
charts are interspersed throughout the volume. •.
There can be no need to insist on the usefulness, in fact, the necessity of
the Year Book. It will be readily reeognized as essential that the man engaged
in political life, the economist and the teacher, as weil as the industrialist and
the business man should be provided with a reliable source of information. Apart
from its value as an aid to research work, this publication also gives the reader
a general outlook on present conditions in the Province. For these reasons it
is one of the Govcrmnent publications most in demand.
Judged by the ever increasing number of requests and·testimonials received,
the Year Book can safely be said ta adequately fill an important need.

l have the honour ta be,

                                              Sir,
                                          Your obedient servant,

The Head of the Bureau of Stati.,tics.
