BUREAU OF STATISTICS

                                                              QUEBEC, December 23rd, 1927.

                          To the Honourable ATHANASE DAVID,

                                            Secretary of the Province,

                                                   Quebec.
                          Sir,

l have the honour to submit the fourteenth edition of the Year
Book issued by the Bureau of Statistics.
Although the form l'emains comparatively the same as in previous
years, the attentive reader will not fail to notice that improvements
are being introduced and that the editor endeavours to include more
information in a concise manner. By consulting the table of contents,
one readily realizes the many subjects treated and the logical manner
in wbich they are presented make this publication a valuable one.
The information is compiled from official sources and is therefore
reliable, though statistics are not an exact science. The reports included
are carefully verified and compared with those of previous years, when
they seem to refiect the situation they are published as a true repre-
                          sentation of existing conditions.
The editor of the Year Book points out the volumes, reports or
bulletins from which statistics contained in this publication have been
gathered. The reader will realize that it is an utter impossibility to
give in such a work full particulars of the -yarious mattel's treated, but
tbese can be obtained by referring to the source of information.
It will be noticed that there are many charts in the present volume
depicting both the upward and downward variations of certain social,
                          demographic and economic progress.
We wish to draw particular attention to the chapter on Production,
especially to the section concerning Agriculture. This contains an almost
complete account of everything pertaining to production, particularly
to agricultural and cattle production. The figures given are taken from
publications of the Dominion Bureau of Statistics.
The editor of the Year Book, Ml'. Lucien Viau, L.C.S., briefly sets
forth in his preface the various changes which have been made. Special
