he waa promoted to Brevet Major General 11 Sep 1814. In the
reorganization of the amy 1 Jun 1821, he was retained as Col. and
Chief Engineer. On 24 May 1828 he attained the high poaition of
Conmnder in Chief of the adea ofthe U.S. with the rank of Major!
