LOCAI~ION  AND  ACCESS                     OTTAWA

            Edina  Cemetery  is located  in Chatham Township,  Argenteuil  County,  Province  of
            Quebec,  approximately  95  miles  (153  Km)  from  Ottawa-Hull.

            To  wach  the  cemetery  from  the  south  side  of the  Ottawa  River  via  Highway  17,  drive
            through  the  main  Street  of  Hawkesbury,  cross  the  Perley  Bridge  into Quebec,  and
            proceed  north to Highway  148,  then  east to St.  Philippe.  Here you  turn  north on
            Boulrward  Renaud  to Brownsburg till you  reach  the  traffic  lights,  and  from  there
            procr!ed  north to Pine  Hill  and  west  to  Edina,  approx.  1.2  miles  (1.9  Km)  of  grave1
            road,,  The  overall  distance  from the  lights  in Brownsburg  to  the  cemetery  is 14.8
            miles  (23.7  Km).

            The  c.emetery  is fairly well  maintained  and  free  from  bush  and  weeds  although  some
            work  is  required  in order  to  Save  the  remaining  stones.  It would  be  nice to  see  al1
            broke~n stones  pieced  together  and  embedded  in cement.  A  good  example  of  restoration
            is the  Scotch  Road  Cemetery  also  situated  in Argenteuil  County.

            HISTCIRICAL  SKETCH

            From  Cyrus  Thomas'  "History  of  the  Counties  of Argenteuil  and  Prescott  "  published
            in 1896,  page  365  we  read  the  following:


            "About  four miles West  of Oalesville was  a  post  offive  with  the  name  Edina;  which  was
            estahlished  in 1874,  William  Tomal ty being  the  first post-master.  He  died  and  his
            broth~er, Joseph  Tomal ty,  was  appointed  post-master  in his  place!


            The  I'ollowing  is an  excerpt  from  a  letter by  Mrs.  Jean  Mott  to me:
            "  Edina  Cemetery  is believed  to be  a  very  old  one  and  it is also  said  to  be  older
