AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES AND FARMERS' CLUBS. (1)

                                The agricultural Societies and Farmers' Clubs are local institutions
                           formed for the purpose of helping agriculture and teaching the principles
                           of rural economics.    In a general way, these organizations study
                           methods of cultivation, of improving livestock and of promoting
                           agricultural development.   The Clubs mU8t number at least 25 members
                           and the Societies at least 40.  The sphere of action of the former may
                           not extend beyond the !imits of a parish, whereas the latter may extend
                           to  a whole county.     The3e a330ciation, receive grar.ts from     the
                           government.
                                The methods of action of these societies and clubs are various.
                           They generally discuss theoretical and practical questions, have lectures,
                           nrganize competitions and exh.ibitions, grant prizes to farmers) he-lp
                           the importation of blooded stock) etc.
                                The importance of these organizations and their development since
                           1907, may byseen by l'eferring to table 34.    On the 31st December
                           1926, the Agricultural Societies numbered 92 and the Farmer's Clubs 705.
